live...for the will of GodDefining Your Noble Character    Part 1.7

You don’t have to look too hard for the holy women of God in scripture. Start with the first book in the Bible, Genesis 12-23. Here you will find Sarah, Abraham’s wife.  Like you and I she is imperfect and in need of the Savior. She is our example of a submissive woman.

If we are called to submit to a loving Father in heaven than we certainly have the capability of submitting to our own husband.

In all your ways submit to him (God), and he will make your paths straight.(Proverbs 3:6)

Now these chapters in Genesis are loaded with drama, to say the least. But there is a clear message within these pages that all women of God can and must learn from. To be frank, if Sarah can be submissive to her own husband then so can you and I. Because she had the hope of God’s blessing she was able to adorn herself with this virtue of submission.

For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husband, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. (1 Peter 3:5-6)

If you haven’t read the accounts of Abraham and Sarah go for it, you just might be amazed at how God showed patients with these two and even at their end God followed through with his promise, he blessed them and their generations to come.

After the fall,

a woman’s desire would be for her own husband and he would rule over her (Genesis 3:16b). If you think that you have a heavy load to bear just take a look at the man’s consequence in Genesis 3:17-19.

Some women might find it a curse to always have the desire for their own husband and even melan the call to be submissive to anyone.  But I do believe if you are indeed a woman of God and call yourself a child of Abraham and Sarah (1 Peter 3:6b) then you are more than capable of adorning yourself with this virtue of submission.

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart (read Proverbs 3:1-12)

Here are some questions for you to ponder.

  • Who are the submissive women of the Bible?
  • How has God blessed these women?
  • Do you relate with any one particular woman of the Bible?
  • When both Eve and Sarah messed up (sinned) and before God dealt with these women guess who God approached first for their wrong doing? (Genesis 3:9 & Genesis 18:13)

My hope is that you will accept a pure definition of what submission really means. I cannot be the one to open your eyes on this one. This is an area that only the Holy Spirit within you can bring to light. Through God’s Holy Word and a little push from a fellow sister-in-Christ I pray that you will begin to hear this word submission as a beautiful word.

Blessings always,

  1. Katie, I really enjoy reading your studies. Thank you for all you do. It’s brings me such joy to watch you grow into a Lady for our Lord, since I’ve known you since about age 5!
    Love and miss you,

    1. Elizabeth, thank you for your encouragement. It means a lot to me. Engaging in a Bible study alone is one thing but when you can meet together with more people it is such a blessing. I may not get to see all my readers face to face each week but I know that I am not alone in this adventure. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. Love, Katie
